Roque: “Oposisyon, itigil niyo na ‘yan”
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque blamed the opposition over the “Nasaan ang Pangulo?” amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.
At the height of Typhoon Ulysses, #NasaanAngPangulo became one of the trending topics on Twitter as Filipinos online started to look for the president anew.
But at the time, President Rodrigo Duterte was attending the virtual opening ceremony of the 37th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit along with his fellow Southeast Asian leaders.
Meanwhile, the presidential spokesman earlier blamed the opposition over the ‘Nasaan Ang Pangulo’ trend.
“Hindi dapat tanungin [angl ‘Nasaan ang Pangulo?’ ‘Yan ay kalokohan lang ng oposisyon. Ang Presidente ay hindi nawawala,” he said.
“Oposisyon, itigil niyo na ‘yan. Dahil kung ikukumpara ‘yung mga casualties sa nakaraang administrasyon sa casualties ngayon, eh maliit po ang casualties natin,” he added.
This wasn’t the first time that people looked for President Duterte while a typhoon was devastating several parts of the country.
Early this month, Filipinos online wondered where President Duterte was during the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly because of his absence during the first public briefing about the typhoon.
The President was in Davao as he visited the graves of his parents before the nationwide closure of cemeteries from October 29 to November 4.
President Duterte failed to fly back to Manila because of the absence of available flights.
Before returning to Malacañang, President Duterte conducted aerial inspections on areas in Calabarzon and Bicol Region ravaged by the typhoon.
The President also visited the victims of the typhoon in Guinobatan, Albay.
