PLDT was targeting to deliver faster broadband speed for its customers in Metro Manila and in other key cities nationwide next year.
This, as PLDT-Smart Senior Vice President Mar Tamayo said that the company’s move would allow the Philippines to compete in the global scene.
During a House hearing, Tamayo told lawmakers that their target for 2021 was to have a minimum speed of 30 Mbps for mobile broadband in Metro Manila and in other key cities nationwide.
Tamayo also said that the said plan would eventually “go outward and cover the rest of the population in a couple of years” while the said plan would initially cover Metro Manila and key cities.
Moreover, Tamayo said that Smart Communications would continue its LTE expansion and 5G development.

For its fixed broadband users, the telecommunications company was eyeing to deliver a minimum internet speed of 20 Mbps.
“This is our way of really providing the speed that our subscribers are requiring for us. It takes a lot of investment but we are doing that“, Tamayo said.
PLDT-Smart previously said in a statement that PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications were looking to boost its investments in 5G connectivity next year.
