PhilHealth approved continuing coverage of hemodialysis sessions beyond 90-session limit.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) had approved the continuing coverage of hemodialysis sessions beyond 90-session limit.
This, as the state insurer had extended the hemodialysis coverage from 90 up to a maximum of 144.
PhilHealth on Monday issued an official statement announcing the latest development on the coverage of hemodialysis.
In a statement, the state insurer said that the PhilHealth Board of Directors on November 11, 2020, had approved the continuing coverage of hemodialysis sessions beyond the 90-session limit which could be availed of until December 31, 2020, adding that PhilHealth would immediately issue the guidelines for the special package through a circular.

In the meantime, the state insurer was ordering all its regional offices and concerned healthcare facilities to resume honoring all availments beyond the 90-session limit as duly prescribed by a licensed physician.
Patients who had paid for their hemodialysis sessions were told to file their claims with the nearest PhilHealth office.
Last week, PhilHealth President Dante Gierran said that they’re looking to expand the coverage of hemodialysis sessions up to 133 sessions per year.
Prior to this, Senator Risa Hontiveros encouraged the state insurer to continue with its free dialysis program and appealed to speed up the process of upgrading and reviewing the benefit package for hemodialysis in order to sufficiently meet the needs of patients.
