Magnitude 3.9 earthquake hits Negros Oriental
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed that a Magnitude 3.9 earthquake hit Siaton, Negros Oriental, today, November 12, 2020, at exactly 07:25 a.m.
Earthquakes hit without prior signs/warnings most of the time. Recently, several places in the country were struck off by quakes with different magnitudes.
Among the recent jolts that occurred in the country are the series of quakes in Davao Occidental with Magnitude 4.9 and in Surigao del Sur with Magnitude 4.1.
The aforementioned locations were in Mindanao but earlier, a Magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Siaton, Negros Oriental in the Visayas.
According to the latest earthquake bulletin, the Magnitude 3.9 earthquake that jolted the Municipality of Siaton was tectonic in origin and it hit at a depth of 17 kilometers.
There’s no immediate damage and aftershocks reported as of press time. But Intensity II was felt in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.
Phivolcs noted that the Magnitude 3 earthquake is “felt by many people indoors especially in upper floors of buildings. Vibration is felt like one passing of a light truck.”
“Dizziness and nausea are experienced by some people. Hanging objects swing moderately. Still water in containers oscillates moderately,” PHIVOLCS added.
