GSIS, SSS To Offer Emergency, Calamity Loans For Typhoon Victims

GSIS and SSS will offer emergency and calamity loans for typhoon victims.

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Social Security System (SSS) would be offering emergency and calamity loans to pensioners and members affected by the recent typhoons.

State pension fund GSIS said it was offering emergency loans for pensioners and members affected by typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses.

In a statement, GSIS President and General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet said that pensioners and members may borrow PHP 20,000 under the GSIS Emergency Loan Program, adding that the said loan was payable in 36 equal monthly installments at only 6 percent interest rate.

Members who were in active service and not on leave of absence without pay, had a net take-home pay of not lower than PHP 5,000 after all required monthly obligations had been deducted, and had no pending criminal or administrative case were qualified to apply for the said loan.

Macasaet also said that for GSIS members who had already received loans under the COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program and were not qualified for the emergency loan anymore, they can borrow from the Multi-Purpose Loan Program if members need more funds.

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, GSIS pensioners and members were required to file their applications through contactless methods – through the Electronic GSIS Member Online (eGSISMO), the GSIS web-based facility email, or through dropboxes located in the lobbies of GSIS offices.

Meanwhile, the SSS on Sunday said in an advisory that it would open an assistance package for pensioners and members in areas placed under a state of calamity because of typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses starting November 27, 2020.

The SSS said that the package would include the Three-month Advance Pension for SS and Employees’ Compensation pensioners, Direct House Repair and Improvement Loan, and Calamity Loan Assistance Program (CLAP).

According to the SSS, applications for Calamity Loan Assistance Program and the advance pension would be open from November 27, 2020, until February 26, 2021.

On the other hand, the SSS said that the Direct House Repair and Improvement Loan would be open for one year from the issuance of its corresponding circular.
