Suspension of Caroling for Christmas 2020 Recommended by a Government Official
A government official recommend the suspension of caroling on upcoming Christmas season to IATF amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba asked the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to temporarily prohibit caroling on upcoming Christmas season.
Mamba made the recommendation to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease in the Philippines. He also said that Cagayan has lesser cases of COVID-19 compared to other provinces.
“Karamihan kasi ng carolers namin dito, they are not even from our place. ‘Yung pagpupunta nila from one house to the other, natatakot kami doon because it might cause the upsurge of COVID cases,” Mamba said.
The politician said that the local government units could give the order but it must came from the Inter-Agency Task Force. He also explained that IATF has the right to give the order for having medical and scientific basis regarding the matter.
IATF chief Secretary Carlito Galvez has also expressed his support towards the statement of Cagayan governor.
“It is the prerogative of the LGU because we have said, the Local Government Executives are the most knowledgeable people that can protect their constituents, what is best for them,” Galvez said.
