DOLE Set To Give P13 Billion Financial Aid to the Workers Who Lost Jobs Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to distribute P13 billion cash assistance to the displaced workers due to the pandemic.
Undersecretary Joji Aragon said that the department would give 13 billion pesos to almost two million employees who lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to affect the global economy.
Aragon explained that the financial aid will be given to both overseas workers and the local employees who lost jobs temporarily or permanently due to the health crisis. The program is part of the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act law.
The cash funds would be divided for various programs including Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (AKAP) programs, Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), or COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP).
AKAP would have P2 billion, which will be distributed to over 200,000 repatriated overseas Filipino workers. TUPAD program would receive P6 billion that is expected to be distributed to around 863,000 vendors and small entrepreneurs who lost their livelihoods.
CAMP would have P5 billion, which will be given to over 993,000 displaced workers working in private businesses affected by the health crisis.
“Siguro, this week or early part of next week ay rolling na po ito, meaning, tuluy-tuloy na,” Aragon said.
