Globe 5G will cover 80% of Metro Manila by the end of 2020.
Globe Telecom was expanding its Fifth Generation (5G) network as it sought to cover 80% of Metro Manila by the end of 2020.
This, as Globe Telecom said in a statement that its 5G mobile service had been launched in more cities in Metro Manila.
5G network would allow ultrafast internet speed with minimal lag times, but it remained years away from becoming the standard in the country.
In an earlier statement, Globe Telecom itself said that 4G/LTE remained the standard for mobile internet in the country. Nevertheless, Globe Telecom said that it had launched 5G network in more cities in Metro Manila.

Globe Telecom noted that it was on course of hitting its target in order to cover around 80% of Metro Manila.
Gil Genio, Globe’s chief technology and information officer, said that they had a very active 5G development in Metro Manila and they hoped to cover 80%.
“We are probably in the two-thirds range right now,” Genio said.
Aside from Metro Manila reach, Globe Telecom was also deploying the service to selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao: Boracay, Bacolod, Iloilo, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu, Minglanilla, Cordova, and Cebu City in Visayas; Cagayan de Oro and Davao City in Mindanao.
Subscribers should have 5G-capable smartphones and 5G-ready SIMs in order to experience Globe Telecom’s faster connections.
Previously, Globe Telecom announced that the company officially removed its consumer 3G SIMs across its retail and distribution chains.
