Geneva Cruz went emotional as she reposted Ryan Cayabyab’s post
Geneva Cruz took to social media as she went emotional as she reposted Ryan Cayabyab’s post that reminded her of “Smokey Mountain” days.
As seen in the photo on Ryan Cayabyab’s post, which was reposted on her Instagram account, it showed that she was with her “Smokey Mountain” bandmates James Coronel, Jeffrey Hidalgo, and Assistant Secretary of the Department of Finance Tony Lambino in their early years as a group.
In her post, she admitted that she got teary-eyed when Ryan Cayabyab — the National Artist for Music and Ramon Magsaysay awardee — posted the said photo.
According to her, they were all so young and they had no idea what they’re getting into other than they’re just all “hungry to sing”.
Geneva then expressed her gratitude to Ryan Cayabyab, saying, “Smokey Mountain changed our lives forever”.
In Ryan Cayabyab’s post, he shared that his school of music ran an audition for young singers — between 12-14 years old — in the summer break of 1989.
According to him, they found eight finalists who underwent almost two months of training in dancing and singing.
He added that they chose the final members of the group of teeners who ended up as the first batch of Smokey Mountain when the training ended.
“These kids…whew. Look at them then. May mga uguhin pa dyan“, Ryan said.
