Cagayan Residents Plan To File Charges Against Magat Dam’s Management Due to Flooding Incident
Several Cagayan residents are planning to file charges against Magat Dam’s Management due to the severe flooding they have been experiencing for years.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said that the people of the province want to sue the management of Magat Dam. The people along northern Luzon province are experiencing floods throughout the years.
Mamba’s constituents revived the class suit against Magat Dam management due to the record-breaking floods that struck the province leaving thousands of residents stranded on their roofs.
The unprecedented flooding took the lives of nine residents and trapped a lot of people on their rooftops while waiting for the rescuers.
“Minsan ang tao sa Cagayan, gusto nila magkaron ng lawsuit against them [Magat Dam] for damages dahil wala naman kami nakikota sa Magat Dam o kahit ano, yet we suffer the flooding woes from the Magat Dam every year,” Mamba said.
The governor revealed that the province is not gaining any benefits from the Magat Dam because the dam’s irrigation along Isabela and not in Cagayan. He also blamed the dam’s watershed for the flooding incident.
The government official said that the provinces of Kalinga and Apayao are also suffering from severe flooding due to Magat Dam’s excess water.
