AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine would undergo stringent clinical trial in the Philippines, according to Galvez.
COVID-19 Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Saturday said that AstraZeneca would undergo stringent clinical trial for its COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines.
This, as he allayed fears on potential local use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine amidst questions on its efficacy.
Galvez, who was also the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19, said that science was a revolving process and issues about the COVID-19 vaccine could still be corrected.
According to him, they won’t use a vaccine that had not rolled out in its country or origin.
The Philippines had sought AstraZeneca’s responses on questions about the efficacy of its COVID-19 vaccine as the private sector prepared to sign a deal to purchase doses of its COVID-19 vaccine.
Galvez explained in an interview on TeleRadyo that the money which would be used to purchase COVID-19 vaccines would come from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.
“Mayroon po silang napaka-stringent regulatory requirements, meaning pasado sa WHO, pangalawa dapat may 2 o 3 regulatory clearance either from US, from UK at saka from other countries,” he said.
