Erik Matti on Mulan: “What a disappointment!”
Veteran Filipino director Erik Matti took to the image-sharing site, Instagram wherein he expressed his disappointment on Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan.
Mulan centers on the story of a fearless young woman who disguises herself as a man to save her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army in the battle against northern invaders in China.
According to him, he’s a fan of Mulan ever since.
But after watching the live-action remake of the hit flick, he’s disappointed how the producers reworked the animated story.
“What a disappointment! It feels old and backward than the animated version. Boring, bland and by the numbers. They never got the soul of the original,” Erik Matti said.
“I guess this is what happens when you only want to cash in on a franchise,” he added.
