The Department of Health (DOH) has issued a statement regarding the mass gathering at the opening of the “white beach” in Manila Bay.
On Sunday, September 20, Manila Bay was reopened to the public but the unexpected number of people crowded the white sand beach.
Earlier, DOH cited that due to the large number of people who gathered at Manila Bay, health is at risk over the widespread of the dreaded coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
In a statement, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said: “Ito ay isang nakakabahalang sitwasyon. Alam natin lahat hindi pa ho nawawala ang virus dito sa atin.”
“Kung meron tayong proyektong ganito ito ay maganda at kahanga hanga ngunit kailangan pa rin nating i-enforce ang minimum health standards,” Vergeire added.
According to her via ABS-CBN News, they immediately notified the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) as well as the City of Manila and the Philippine National Police after receiving reports of mass gathering in the bay without observing physical distancing.
“I think tomorrow in the IATF this will also be discussed. Antayin natin ang magiging desisyon ng Inter-Agency Task Force regarding this matter,” the DOH undersecretary noted.
Meanwhile, Manila Bay, which was earlier swirled with criticism over its white sand project with dolomite rocks, has been closed again to the public.
