To recall, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources started putting “white” dolomite boulders from Cebu that were being crushed and brought to Manila Bay.

Some celebrities — including Alessandra de RossiNikki Valdez, and Gretchen Ho — expressed their own point of view regarding the “white sand” at Manila Bay.

Based on a report on GMA Network’s State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu suspended the dolomite mining operations of the Philippine Mining Service Corp. and the Dolomite Mining Corp.

The dolomite crushed for use in the department’s white sand project in the Manila Bay came from Cebu.

According to Cimatu, the DENR wanted to determine whether dolomite mining was “adversely” affecting the air, water, and corals in the said area.

Cimatu ordered the Environment Management Bureau in the said area to study the water and air quality and also the condition of the corals in the nearby waters as well.

Prior to this, President Rodrigo Duterte said that a lot of people were “enjoying” the view of Manila Bay that has white dolomite sand in it. The President also congratulated Cimatu on the developments in the said area.
