PhilHealth Executive Vice President and COO Arnel De Jesus will skip the next Senate hearing over corruption within the agency due to a medical emergency.

In a letter he sent to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, he noted that he will not be attending the upcoming hearing due to an “unforeseen medical emergency.”

He also attached a medical certificate stating that he was admitted to a hospital last August 5.

The next hearing over PhilHealth anomalies particularly issues of corruption will resume this coming August 11, 2020.

The executive vice president and other PhilHealth officials were invited to discuss matters concerning the”widespread” corruption within the agency.

Previously, resigned PhilHealth anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Montes Keith revealed in a Senate hearing that a whopping P15 billion worth of funds have been pocketed by the officials in a “syndicate-like” transactions within the agency.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque gave a warning to the so-called ‘buwayas’ in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

“Ang mensahe po sa mga buwaya ng PhilHealth: Tapos na po ang maliligayang araw niyo diyan. Good bye!” he said.

According to Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte has created a high-level task force that will be led by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that would investigate the alleged corruption within the state-run insurance firm.
