CJ Villavicencio issues official statement over plagiarism controversy
The Pop Stage grand winner CJ Villavicencio has issued a public apology over the alleged plagiarism of Ang Huling El Bimbo: The Musical.
The Pop Stage is an online weekly show hosted by Matteo Guidicelli and recently, CJ Villavicencio was named as the first-ever winner of the competition, bringing home a 1 million peso cash prize and an artist contract.
But the aspiring singer has been accused of allegedly plagiarising certain musical arrangements and concept of Ang Huling El Bimbo: The Musical.

However, according to him, “there was no intention whatsoever on my part to plagiarize. I am sorry if I caused undue distress, seemed disrespectful or if I have hurt the theater community.
Here’s the official statement of CJ Villavicencio:
Meanwhile, Ely Buendia himself has reacted to the alleged plagiarism of Ang Huling El Bimbo: The Musical.
“I am disappointed for all the AHEB crew because I know for a fact that they poured all their hearts and souls into creating something that was true to the material and their craft,” the Eraserheads frontman said.

Jef Flores, one of the casts of the musical as well as its musical director Myke Salomon also expressed their views about the issue.
