Pres. Duterte Signs Law Allowing Changes in School Calendar
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved a law allowing adjustments in the school calendar.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of changes in the Philippines. Now, it is already a protocol to wear face mask and practice social distancing in public.
Even the capacity of public transportation was reduced to make sure that social distancing is observed. The community quarantine measures are still up now.
As of this writing, the Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 67,456 cases of COVID-19 in the country. Out of this total number, 1,831 patients died while 22,465 have already recovered from the disease.

The classes in schools have yet to open due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Usually, elementary and secondary schools start the school year in June.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic now, the opening of classes was moved by DepEd to August 24 instead of June. Also, the mode of learning has yet to be finalized.

DepEd has proposed a limited face-to-face classes in areas considered low-risk for COVID-19. However, it has yet to be approved by Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who ordered the proposal to be in written form so it can be studied.
In line with the adjustment in the school calendar, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the bill that allows making changes in the school calendar. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the said law is the Republic Act No. 11480.
According to the report, the said new law also approved the holding of Saturday classes. It allows it both in public and in private education institutions.
The new law will take effect upon publication in the Official Gazette. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, classes may be done through blended learning.

I doubt it is effective for the students to learn their subjects efficiently, the parents will pay high tuition fees and yet they are the one who will facilitate their children to learn? Waste of money!
