Vilma Santos defends ABS-CBN anew
Star for all Season now Batangas Representative Vilma Santos-Recto showed brimming support towards Kapamilya Network or ABS-CBN in her sponsorship speech during a congressional hearing on Monday, June 1.
According to philstar.com, Vilma Santos-Recto is sponsoring House Bill 4305 which seeks to grant the country’s largest network a fresh 25-year contract.
Vilma Santos is addressing the congress particularly house speaker Allan Peter Cayetano on the context of the bill which will benefit the 11,000 workers affected in its shutdown.

Meanwhile, former ABS-CBN journalist now Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, also aired her statement to show support to the network.
“I stand for the corporation’s 11,000 employees composed of the rank and file, talents, professionals, my previous co-workers facing uncertainty with regard to their jobs at the worst possible time amid the pandemic,” Legarda stated.
It was last May 26, 2020, when the Alto Broadcasting System – Chronicle Broadcasting Network or ABS-CBN faced the congress in the first session over their franchise renewal.
In the said hearing, Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta stressed that the country’s largest broadcasting network “did not comply with the provisions in the expired 25-year franchise.”
“Hindi nag-comply ang ABS-CBN kaya hindi sila pwedeng lumabas at magpalabas,” the Congressman said as part of his opening speech during the said hearing.
According to Marcoleta, the network failed to address issues that the network had over the years such as “foreign ownership,” “violation of workers’ rights,” failure to pay taxes,” and to name a few.
Prior to hearing, ABS-CBN closed its doors following an order from the National Telecommunications Commission which took effect last May 5, 2020.

It was so nice of Congresswomen Vilma Santos-Recto and Loren Legarda to support ABS CBN franchise bid in the midst of Covid 19 pandemic where a lot of Filipinos are struggling to make a living. The would be jobless employees from ABS CBN are addition to the already millions of unemployed including OFWs that were displaced by this pandemic. Hoping that more independent-minded and right-thinking Congressmen and Senators will support ABS CBN franchise bid.

Kitang-kita naman sa hearing kung paano binubully ng maton ng Cavite ang mga abogado at representante ng Network. Tapos pati yung di kasamang TVPlus at yung naka-blocktime e sabihing ilegal? Kapag Kapamilya ilegal, kapag Kapuso o Kapatid hindi?
