SET junked the quo warranto petition against Senator Koko Pimentel.
The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) junked the quo warranto petition seeking to declare Senator Koko Pimentel ineligible for the senatorial term 2019-2025.
This, as the Senate Electoral Tribunal dismissed the quo warranto petition due to “lack of merit” as SET signed a 17-page decision last June 3.
Efren Adan and Reymar Mansilungan filed the quo warranto petition last May 31, 2019, questioning the eligibility of Senator Koko Pimentel as they pointed out that it will be his third term in the Senate. Mansilungan and Adan claimed that Pimentel already served the 2007-2013 and 2013-2019 senatorial terms.
Moreover, Adan and Mansilungan cited Article VI Section 4 of the Philippine Constitution which stated that a senator must serve no more than two consecutive terms.

However, the Senate Electoral Tribunal ruled that Pimentel wasn’t prohibited to run and be elected in the 2019 – 2025 Senatorial term.

Senator Koko Pimentel first won as a senator in the 2007 elections yet he was only proclaimed winner in August 2011 after the Senate Electoral Tribunal ruled in favor of his election protest against Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri. Pimentel was also re-elected as a senator in 2013.
