PH Reports 634 New COVID-19 Cases, Says DOH

Philippines reported 634 new COVID-19 cases, according to DOH.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday announced that the Philippines reported 634 new COVID-19 cases as of 4:00 p.m. of June 4, 2020.

This, as the Department of Health reported that 313 out of 634 were classified as “fresh” cases and the remaining 321 were classified as “late” cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease to 20,382.

For “fresh” cases, 114 COVID-19 patients were from Metro Manila, 101 were from Central Visayas, 1 was a repatriate, and the remaining 97 came from different areas in the Philippines. On the other hand, for the “late” cases, 44 COVID-19 patients were from Metro Manila, 37 were from Central Visayas, 63 were repatriates, and the remaining 177 were from different areas in the Philippines.

Aside from the number of confirmed cases, the Department of Health also reported 95 additional recoveries and 10 new fatalities due to COVID-19. This brought the total number of recoveries to 4,248 and total fatalities to 984.

According to the Department of Health, the fresh cases recorded on Thursday were based on its test results released to patients within the last three days, while the late cases recorded were based on the test results released to patients four days ago or more.

As per the report, the Philippines already had 40 certified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) facilities as well as 12 GeneXpert laboratories that already have tested 345,577 people as of June 2, 2020.
