Microsoft officially announced the permanent closure of its retail stores.
Microsoft officially announced that the company was closing its retail stores permanently after its retail locations already closed in March as the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
This, as Microsoft released its statement announcing a “strategic shift” in its retail operations, which means, the company was shifting to all-online support and sales. In addition, its retail stores won’t reopen and the closures would cost the company about USD 450 million in expenses.
David Porter, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft, said that the company’s sales had grown online as its product portfolio had evolved into largely-digital offerings, and its team had proven success by serving its customers beyond any physical location.
Porter also said that Microsoft was grateful to its customers, adding that the company was looking forward to continuing to serve its customers online and with its retail sales team at Microsoft corporate locations.

David Porter also said that it was a new day for how team members at Microsoft Store would serve its customers, adding that the company was energized about the “opportunity to innovate” in how Microsoft engaged with its customers, maximize its talent for “greatest impact”, and help its valued customers achieve more.
