Mayor of Talisay City in Cebu was appealing to IATF to downgrade its status from MECQ to GCQ.
The mayor of Talisay City in Cebu was appealing to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) to downgrade the quarantine status in the city from modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to general community quarantine (GCQ).
This, as Anthony Gullas Jr., the city mayor of Talisay City in Cebu, said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV that the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management on Emerging Infectious Diseases to revert the city to MECQ was based on “incorrect data” given by the Department of Health in Central Visayas.
Based on the data that was obtained by GMA News Online, Gullas said that no recoveries were reported in the city, where in fact Talisay City in Cebu already reported 50 recoveries from its 126 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Moreover, Gullas said that he learned that the reclassification of Talisay City in Cebu to MECQ was based on the data that was sent by the Department of Health in Central Visayas. He also said that he had already coordinated with Cebu Provincial Governor Gwen Garcia regarding the said matter and Garcia will endorse Gullas’ appeal to the Regional IATF.
Gullas’ appeal came as President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday announced that Talisay City in Cebu was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until June 30 due to the increasing number of new cases in the city.
