The reason why Janina San Miguel quit pageantry

Former Binibining Pilipinas-World 2008 Janina San Miguel divulged in an interview the real reason why she quit the world of pageantry.

On the seventh episode of Undercover Asia, an investigative documentary of Channel News Asia, former pageant contestants including Janina exposed the hidden side of the Philippine pageants.

CNA revealed how pageantry became hunting grounds for sexual predators among female and male candidates.

According to Interaksyon.com, Janina has been vocal about her reasons for leaving the pageantry and one of which is due to her grandfather’s death.

But earlier, she came out to speak about the indecent practices during her reign in Bb. Pilipinas- that prompted her to quit- three months before she competes the Miss World pageant at the time.

According to Janina San Miguel, among the reasons why she quit pageantry is due to indecent proposals and rigid standards of the contest organizers.

“Noong nandoon na kami, sinabi na 3 million for a one-night stand. ‘Yung 25 million, gagawin ka niyang girlfriend, bibigyan ka niya ng car, condo, resort, lahat,” the former beauty queen said.

“Iyon na nga ‘yung maduming kalakaran nila. Ang dami talagang gustong maging girlfriend or wife ang isang beauty queen,” she added.

When asked about her tenure in Bb. Pilipinas, she said: “To tell you honestly, I’m really not happy during that time,” she stressed.

Janina San Miguel also recalled that there was a point in time when she was barred from seeing her loved ones as well as prohibited for using a phone by the contest organizers.
