The Consortium on Democracy and Disinformation on Monday organized a forum on the verdict against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa in partnership with Rappler.
This, as the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 46 has yet to decide on the cyber libel case on June 15 against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and Rappler’s former researcher Rey Santos. Although it was originally scheduled on April 3, Manila RTC rescheduled it to June 15 due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
[UPDATE] The Manila Regional Trial Court announced the verdict on the cyber libel case against Ressa and Santos. As per the report, the court handed down a guilty verdict against the chief executive of Rappler. Aside from the cyber libel case, Ressa was also facing other cases including tax evasion.

The said forum was participated by Chel Diokno, a human rights lawyer; Ann Marie Lipinski, the curator of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University; Peter Greste, an Australian journalist; and a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers Caoilfhionn Gallagher, QC. Also, the said forum was moderated by Marites Vitug, the editor-at-large at Rappler; and John Nery, a columnist at the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
