Batman director Joel Schumacher passed away
Joel Schumacher, the director of Batman movies; Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, died at the age of 80 due to cancer.
The New York-based director has been battling cancer and on Monday morning (US time), he passed away.
The late director who’s behind the success of 80s hit movies; St. Elmo’s Fire and The Lost Boys, started his career in the fashion industry.
But his career was placed on hiatus after being hooked with the illegal substances.
“When I got off hard drugs in 1970, I thought, ‘I got to go back to basics, and I’ve really screwed up my life here. So what can I do to make my life better?’ And I thought, ‘I’ve got to pursue my original dream as a child to become a movie director.’ “
Joel used his background in fashion and began working as a costume designer in Hollywood. Eventually, he ventured into writing movies and directing, with his big break via the horror-comedy movie, Lost Boys and teen-movie St. Elmo’s Fire.
Then, according to npr.org, he came to direct the two movies of the Batman franchise.
Batman, a fictional superhero, is a character created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger under DC Comics. He was also referred to as Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, and the World’s Greatest Detective.
Batman centers on the story of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy businessman who “swore vengeance against criminals, an oath tempered by a sense of justice” following the death of his parents during childhood.
