Transport Groups in Bacolod City To Organize Transport Strike In The City.
Transport groups in Bacolod City were planning to organize a transport strike in the city if the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start apprehending drivers who have no special permit.
This, as Elizabeth Katalbas, the President of the Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association or FEBACDA, said that the Land Transportation Office cannot issue special permits to jeepneys just because one of the requirements set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) was that the jeepney driver must be a member of a cooperative.
Katalbas also said that about 60% of drivers in the city were not members of the cooperative because of their financial difficulties, adding that the local government unit (LGU) would be able to assist them in what they can do with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Transportation Office if they will get arrested by the LTO.
Moreover, Elizabeth Katalbas said that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Transportation Office would be considerate knowing that drivers were affected by the community quarantine measures in the city as they don’t have income and work due to coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Katalbas also said that they’re planning to organize a rally at the LTO office in the city if the Land Transportation Office will start apprehending drivers who don’t have a special permit.
As per the report, Katalbas said that the Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association (FEBACDA) will be joined by United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) and Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (STONE). The transport groups will discuss the duration of carrying out a transport strike if the LTFRB and LTO would continue to monitor them.
