US Coast Guard: Pinoy sailor found dead onboard a cruise ship.
A 32-year-old Pinoy sailor was found dead onboard a cruise ship according to the US Coast Guard.
Based on the report of AFP via an article published by GMA News, the Filipino cruise ship member passed away last week due to self-inflicted harm.
The Filipino sailor who died because of “apparent self-harm” works on a ship called Scarlet Lady, a cruise ship owned by Virgin Voyages, a Florida-based company founded by British billionaire Richard Branson.
In a statement released by the company, it expressed its condolences over the abrupt death of the Pinoy sailor. However, they refused to reveal further details of the latter’s death.
The ship was supposed to circumnavigate this March, however due to widespread coronavirus disease or COVID-19 pandemic, its operation stop.
Many have been trapped in the said cruise ship, including the Pinoy sailor who used to work as a cleaner in the living quarters for guests.
The Filipino sailor’s death was first reported by a blog called Cruise Law news. However, it did not state when exactly the sailor passed away.
The blog told Miami Herald that the ship docked in Miami, Florida for the body of the Filipino worker who died to be taken away.
Meanwhile, the report from Agence France-Presse noted that 6 cruise ship members have already died onboard a vessel. However, most cases are not related to the pandemic.
Shipping lines are also having a hard time not just to ensure the safety of their workers but also on the repatriation of the sailors who have been onboard various vessels for two months already without assurance of when are they going to set foot on dry land.
