NGCP Gave Medical Supplies To 300 Hospital To Help Combat COVID-19
NGCP — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said that it gave medical supplies to 300 hospitals in the Philippines in order to support the government’s efforts to combat COVID-19 or coronavirus disease 2019.
This, as Cynthia Alabanza, the spokesperson of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, said in an interview with DZMM that the NGCP has chartered a flight carrying medical supplies from China. In its Facebook post, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines stated that the shipment includes: two million face masks, 400,000 KN95 masks, 50,000 N95 masks, and 2,100 infrared thermometers.
Last March, the NGCP had pledged to donate PHP one billion — PHP 500 million worth of medical supplies and goods, and PHP 500 million in cash — in order to support the Philippines’ fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. The said donation was approved by its major stakeholders — Henry Sy Jr, Robert Coyiuto Jr, and the State Grid Corp of China.
As per the report, some forty-three (43) hospitals already received medical supplies from the NGCP as of April 28, 2020. NGCP Spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza also said that the distribution of 1.25 million food packs to 1,028 local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines was “nearing completion”.
Alabanza added that the NGCP assured that its employees, including its linemen, were well taken care of even though they continued to operate in the midst of lockdown measures implemented in Luzon.
President Rodrigo Duterte previously approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas until May 15, 2020 in order to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 in the Philippines.
As of 4:00 p.m. of May 1, the Department of Health reported 284 new cases of COVID-19, with 41 new recoveries and 11 new coronavirus deaths.
