Barangay Executives Will Face Criminal Complaints Due To Alleged SAP Anomaly
Forty two (42) barangay executives may face criminal complaints due to the alleged irregularities on the distribution of cash assistance under DSWD’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
The Social Amelioration Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was aimed to give cash assistance to the “poorest of the poor” as well as those who were qualified for the said program.
However, there were some officials from the local government units were allegedly taking advantage of the said program by way of conducting irregularities on the distribution of cash assistance to the beneficiaries.
Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, the spokesperson of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), said that some officials opted to keep the budget for themselves, while others were seeking for a portion of cash assistance from the beneficiaries.
He also said that the DILG will file an administrative case against 42 barangay executives, adding that the said case was already submitted to the fiscal’s officce.
As per the report, the Department of the Interior and Local Government first authorized the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-CIDG) to conduct “case build-up operations” against corrupt officials, adding that the DILG was looking for help to the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) in order to address the irregularity in DSWD’s Social Amelioration Program.
