15 Myths About COVID-19 — Here are the things that people should not believe about the 2019 novel coronavirus disease.
Amid the outbreak that several parts of the world are experiencing now, myths about the disease are also spreading. These kinds of wrong information only add gravity to the problem.
As part of public service, Mr. Public Serice Kuya Daniel Razon released this vlog that talked about the 15 myths about the COVID-19, based on the information from the World Health Organization.
Here is the list of information contradicting the myths about coronavirus:
- Cold weather and snow cannot kill the new coronavirus.
- Taking a hot bath does not prevent the new coronavirus disease.
- The coronavirus cannot be transmitted through products from China
- The new coronavirus cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites.
- Hand dryers are not effective in killing the new coronavirus.
- Ultraviolet disinfection lamp cannot kill the new coronavirus.
- Thermal scanners cannot detect people infected with the new coronavirus. It is just effective to know if a person has a fever.
- Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill the viruses that have already entered your body.
- The new coronavirus cannot be transmitted by house pets. (no evidence found to support that the virus can be transmitted by pets, as of the time that the vlog was released.
- Coronavirus is new and different, so it needs its own vaccine.
- There is no evidence that saline has protected people from infection with the new coronavirus.
- There is no evidence that eating garlic has protected people from the new coronavirus.
- People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus. Older people who have a pre-existing medical condition are easily affected by the COVID-19.
- Antibiotics do not work against viruses, only bacteria. A patient can take antibiotics because it is possible that bacterial co-infection can happen.
- As of the time that the vlog was uploaded, there is no specific medicine recommended to treat or prevent the new coronavirus.
