Travel Ban Lifted in Macau and Hong Kong by the Government
TRAVEL BAN – The government made a travel ban exemption for Filipino Migrant Workers in Macau and Hong Kong so they can now go back to their job.
The travel ban on these countries lasted for 17 days, resulting in the holdings of the workers in the country. Filipino Workers from Hongkong and Macau who went on vacation in the country are now exempted from the travel ban. In addition to this exemption, they just need to sign “health waivers”, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said.
Signing the waivers doesn’t mean that the Philippine Government will abandon them, Locsin said. Obviously they will be in better care in Hong Kong than in our country, he added. Hong Kong and Macau have confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, which has already killed more than 1000 and sickened more than 70,000 in the world.
Panelo said the integrity task force has partially lifted the ban to enable the Filipino migrant workers to return to their jobs in Macau and Hong Kong. The ban got lifted because of the persistent request of the migrant workers, Panelo added. Panelo also gave assurance to the workers who signed the waivers that the government will still aid them in case they became ill.
According to inquirer.net, the exemption of the ban covers also those foreign spouses and children of Filipinos living in those two countries. Students and diplomats in Hong Kong and Macau also got an exemption. The families of the Filipinos and diplomats entering the Philippines will have a 14-day quarantine before they can travel again.
In the report, tourists travel by Filipinos to Macau and Hong Kong is not part of the exemption. The Bureau of Immigration implements the resolution on Tuesday. It was based on a thorough risk assessment of the current situation by the experts.
