Starbucks, McDonald’s, and other fast-food companies in China went ‘contactless’ in order to fight COVID-19.
Starbucks Corp, McDonald’s Corp, and other fast-food companies were ramping up “contactless” pickup and delivery services in order to keep their workers and customers safe.
This, after the 2019 novel coronavirus, now COVID-19, has infected more than 68,500 people and killed 1,665 as of Sunday.
McDonald’s already implemented contactless pickup and delivery of their products across China as the COVID-19 has unfolded. According to its website, customers may order remotely — on their mobile phones or by computers in store — and its employees would seal customers’ orders in bags and put them in a special pot for pickup without human contact.
In a statement, McDonald’s said that the company’s “stepped-up preventive measures” were already applied to all of its servicing channels while the company was looking at how to further improve their process.
Meanwhile, Starbucks recommended that customers may order coffee through its app and then wait outside its cafés until customers get a pick-up notice. The customers’ orders were then placed on tables inside the café’s entrance; if they do enter Starbucks locations, customers would have their temperatures taken at the entrance; and the company’s baristas were wearing masks.
According to Starbucks, the company regularly sterilized its containers and that its delivery people would have their temperatures taken every day. In addition, the company said that its indoor staff must wash their hands every 30 minutes, and public areas were sterilized every two hours.
Also, Yum China Holdings Inc conducted contactless delivery on January 30. According to Yum China Holdings Inc, KFC and Pizza Hut already conducted contactless pickup services at its locations.
