Japan on Friday started allowing passengers to leave a quarantined cruise ship off Japan’s coast in order to finish the isolation in government-designated quarters.
This, as the first passengers, aged 80 and older, were tested negative for the 2019 novel coronavirus, named COVID-19.
The Japanese government has given passengers a chance to move from the cruise ship to accommodation on land. Yet, only those who were tested negative for the COVID-19 have the option to move.
According to a government official, 11 people had left, yet declined to say whether more would depart on Friday or offer further details.
The move to let the first passengers, aged 80 and older, came after 218 people were tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus, named COVID-19.
In a statement, Senior health ministry official Gaku Hashimoto said that those passengers who were tested positive for COVID-19 will be transferred to the hospital, while those passengers who were tested negative for COVID-19 will “disembark and be transferred to accommodation provided by the government.”
