The new 8100 Series Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains were presented to the public as it underwent the standard 150-hour validation test run. Those trains consist of eight (8) rail cars that have a four-car formation per set.

According to PNR General Manager Junn Magno, the send-off event was a “delivery of a promise”, adding that PNR was expected to scale up to nine (9) sets within the first half of 2020. Philippine National Railways’ goal was to reach a capacity of 92,000 passengers per day and to reduce the time between trains to around 15-20 minutes over the current one and a half hours as well.

Aside from launching new trains, DOTr also announced that they will be giving free rides to commuters for the first ten days of operation.
