BFP in Eastern Visayas warned the public against top causes of fire.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) warned the public ahead of PH’s observance of Fire Prevention Month against the top causes of fires in Eastern Visayas.
This, as Senior Supt. Renato Marcial, the regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 8, said that electrical connections topped the causes of fire in the region, followed by unattended cooking, electrical appliances, open flames due to torches or candles, and spontaneous combustion.
The fire department, according to Marcial, has been repeatedly informing and educating the public about activities related to fire prevention. However, he added, these activities were not properly observed in households and communities.
The observance of Fire Prevention Month every March was pursuant to Proclamation 115-A which was signed by former president Ferdinand Marcos in 1967. The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Month was “Matuto Ka, Sunog, Iwasan Na”.
