A soldier and a Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) member died in an ambush Tuesday afternoon in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur.
The victims were named as Private First Class Arwin Niegos and a Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) member Ramie Austria.
The said ambush was held at Purok Santol in Barangay San Isidro. According to Marihatag Police, around 20 members of the New People’s Army were involved in the said attacks that caused the death of the two victims.
The two remaining soldiers found safe after the said ambush and asked for assistance from the 7th Special Forces Company who were at the Mararag Patrol Base.
34 M16 fired cartridge were recovered at the crime scene where the said ambush happened. The rebels from the New People’s Army then brought the victim’s firearms.
