In a press conference last Tuesday, January 14, veteran OPM singer Rey Valera admitted that he was fighting depression through singing.
This, after Rey Valera revealed that he underwent an operation at the last minute before the concert due to intestinal problems.
He said that he wanted to survive from loneliness and depression by way of singing some songs. He also revealed that there was a song that he usually sings — “You are my Sunshine” by Johnny Cash.
He explained that this song brought him to a place where he couldn’t feel any pain. He also said that he wouldn’t be able to survive without singing “You are my Sunshine” — and he has no idea why he chose that song.
He added that he was doing his best in order for their concert to continue.
Rey Valera will have a concert at Palacio de Maynila on February 7 along with Joey Generoso of Side A. Aside from their Manila concert, titled “The Acoustic Playlist,” Rey Valera and Joey Generoso will have their concert tour at the US on May 2020.
