Tsuneko Sasamoto was Japan’s first female photojournalist. Let’s look back on her achievements and milestones in her 80 years of photojournalism.
Tsuneko Sasamoto started taking photos at the age of 25 and has been documenting history for over 70 years. From World War II to the country’s political and economic shift in global powers, she has lived most of her life by documenting Japan’s history.
At the age of 97, she publisher her own book, “Hyakusai no Finder” (Centenarian’s Finder). She also held an exhibit of her own photos at the age of 100.
She also worked on a project named “Hana Akari” (Flower Glow), which was a tribute to her friends who have passed away. Despite having broken legs and a fractured left arm, she kept on completing her project.
At present, she is 105 years old and will turn 106 in September this year.
