Candy Pangilinan suddenly cried and went emotional during her interview after sharing her story about her son, Quentin, who had autism.
“Feeling ko, because of the need to be able to support Quentin ang daming talento na lumalabas po sa akin. Natututo po akong magsumikap and… sorry ho,” Candy Pangilinan told PUSH. “Yon ho, I think because of the situation, I’ve learned to survive and I’ve learned to develop so many other things other than acting.”
She admitted that she didn’t undergo into denial stage after knowing her son’s condition.
“Yung totoo, hindi ako dumaan sa denial kasi hindi ko naintindihan kung ano yon,” she said. “Dumaan ako do’n sa shock siguro, yung ‘Ah, tapos…’ Nung nagsi-sink-in na do’n lang ako talaga naiyak. Do’n ko nalabas, yung parang ‘Oh, my gosh!’ At yung iyak kong iyon hindi rin lahat, yung everyday tuwing pumupunta ako sa therapy niya do’n ko lang naramdaman yung burden.“
She also shared on how her life was changed after having Quentin in her life.
“Ang malaking bagay po na nag-iba sa akin is I’ve become more grateful because I’ve seen… there’s so many things that we take for granted, yon po ang totoo,” she said. “Kasi yung simpleng pagsalita, pag-communicate, pag-open ng hands, yon po ay mga bagay na hirap na hirap ginawa ng anak ko. So many things that we take for granted then I realized na ‘wow, it’s a gift pala.“
Candy also shared an advice to the families who have the same situation as hers.
“Parati ko ngang sinasabi, don’t feel bad about it, you just have to embrace it. Ang dami pa rin kasing tinatago, nagugulat, kinakabahan, ikinahihiya. Actually, ang term ko nga baka hindi ikinahihiya, eh, hindi lang nila alam kung anong gagawin. Ang sa akin lang po ay just embrace the situation, accept it and just go with the flow,” she said. “Do’n ho talaga ang simula, eh. Tigilan na natin na mag-deny na ano lang, matigas ang ulo, spoiled lang, delayed, kasi the more that we do not accept the reality in front of us the more na hindi natin matutulungan yung bata, ganun lang kasimple.“
