YouTube started to roll out its fact-check panels to US-based video searches.
In order to fight misinformation about the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, YouTube started to roll out its fact-check panels to US-based video searches.
This, as YouTube stated in its blog post that it was important for its users to receive accurate information during the pandemic, as such, the company expanded its fact-check information panels.
Breaking News and Top News shelves
The Breaking News and Top News shelves on YouTube would help its viewers in looking for information about the coronavirus updates on the YouTube homepage and video searches as well. With its fact check information panels, YouTube would provide a “fresh context” by way of highlighting “relevant third-party fact-checked articles” on top of search results.
New Feature
YouTube, in its blog post, stated that this new feature would take some time for its systems to “fully ramp up” as its systems would become “more accurate”.
YouTube’s fact-check panels came after Facebook started to combat misinformation about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by way of removing “harmful misinformation” in its platform.
Availability
Though its fact-check panels already launched in Brazil, India, and the United States, YouTube has yet to announce the availability of its new feature in the Philippines. YouTube also said that the company will continue to contain the spread of misinformation on its platform.
