After being a faculty for 56 years, Clarita Carlos has been delisted from the UP PolSci department
CLARITA CARLOS – The retired University of the Philippines (UP) political science professor admitted that she was hurt after she learned that she had been removed from the roster of regular faculty members of her department with whom she served more than five decades.
In an interview with SMNI, Carlos said that she did not want to become famous. However, she felt bad especially since she served in the UP political science department for 56 years.
“Tinatatag mo iyong pangalan mo ng 56 years, tapos buburahin lang nitong mga bata na ‘to? ‘Diba ang sakit sa damdamin,” she said.
After being delisted from UP PolSci faculty, Carlos received support from her former students, including former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
Meanwhile, Clarita Carlos is a retired professor of political science at the University of the Philippines.
Carlos finished a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service at the University of the Philippines, where she also earned master’s and doctorate degrees in Political Science.
She pursued her post-doctoral work in Political psychology and Comparative Foreign Policy Analysis at Cornell University and the University of California at Los Angeles, respectively.
From 1988 to 1998, Carlos worked as a consultant in the Senate of the Philippines.
She also served as President of the National Defense College of the Philippines from 1998 to October 2001.
Since 1993, she has been a consultant for the Local Government Development Foundation.
Carlos has lectured at the National Defense University in the United States as well as at the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats.
She is a recognized pioneer in Political Psychology in the country.
