Boracay is a resort island located in the province of Aklan. It is well known for its white-sand beaches.

Aside from that, it is also famous for being one of the world’s top destinations for relaxation. In fact, it emerged as among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife in 2013.

It was also awarded by the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure as the 2012 Best Island in the World.

It was in April 2018 when the national government issued a decree to close the island paradise for rehabilitation. The renovation run for about six months and in October it was reopened to the public.

It was closed anew in 2020 at the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the beautiful tourist destination is open to the public.

Meanwhile, thousands of jellyfish swarm on the coast of Boracay on Saturday, May 14.

According to a report, the Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation and Management Group said jellyfish were spotted at the three stations of the white sand beach around noon.

But BFAR-Aklan clarified that jellyfish beaching happens on the island from May to September because the wind allegedly pushes the animals to the shores of Boracay.

The DENR says these particular species is not deadly but can cause irritation and allergies.

Because of this, the local government of Malay advised tourists to avoid swimming amid the presence of jellyfish in the area.
