Sharon Cuneta: “Nanang ko po, please lang nakakahiya naman sa amin ni Willy Cruz!”
SHARON CUNETA — The Megastar recently took to social media to call out PDP-Laban senatorial candidate Salvador Panelo for singing her song on the campaign trail.
On Thursday, Sharon seemed upset after learning that Panelo sang her hit single “Sana’y Wala ng Wakas” on the campaign trail.
She, who is the wife of vice-presidential candidate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, took to Instagram to react to a news report which said Panelo sang her song in a sortie. Sharon indicated that Panelo wasn’t allowed to use the song.
“Nanang ko po, please lang nakakahiya naman sa amin ni Willy Cruz! You are not allowed to use our song! Don’t mess with a classic,” Sharon wrote. “I allow its use only for Leni-Kiko! LOL. Utang na loob baka bumangon si Willy, nakakahiya naman sa amin! Kinilabutan ako. In a bad way.“
Pangilinan is the running mate of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo, while Panelo is one of the senatorial bets PDP-Laban chairman President Rodrigo Duterte had endorsed.

The late songwriter Willy Cruz composed the classic song.
“I sing to honor my son, Carlo”
Panelo, who is the former Chief Legal Counsel and Spokesperson of President Duterte, responded to Sharon’s reaction to his singing of “Sana’y Wala ng Wakas”.
In a statement, Panelo said that “Sana’y Wala ng Wakas” is one of his favorite songs because it reminds him of the great lengths he took to care for his late son, Carlo, who had Down Syndrome adding that he honors his late son each time he sings the song.
According to Panelo, he had reached out to Viva Records and was told that he could sing the song in a sortie.
“I wasn’t profiting from it, and certainly not trying to get elected by singing it,” Panelo said. “I was just trying to entertain the people who took time out of their busy lives to see and listen to us. I don’t understand what’s so offensive about that.“
Panelo also said that he thought he’s paying homage to Willy Cruz and Sharon Cuneta by singing it, adding that he’s “sorry she feels that way“. He added that he will continue to sing the song and will now use it in order to raise awareness for the plight of children with special needs.
