Metro Manila Mayors to Discuss Alert Level in the Capital Region
METRO MANILA MAYORS – The mayors in the capital region are set to meet in person today for the first time after two (2) years.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought massive changes in several nations across the globe. One of the countries that greatly suffered amid the pandemic is the Philippines.
Lives were lost to the COVID-19 virus. In the pursuit to curb its spread, community quarantine measures had to be implemented and the restrictions affected many businesses. Several big and small companies were forced to either temporarily or permanently shut down. The economy of the country dropped.
Meanwhile, following the recent surge of the COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila in the first month of 2022, the daily recorded cases have dropped and it signals a positive result in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, amid the decrease in the COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, the authorities and the local government officials are planning to discuss the possibility of easing the restrictions to Alert Level 1.
Speaking to ANC’s Headstart, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said that the Metro Manila mayors will have a meeting tonight. One of their major agenda is to discuss the possible shift of the Alert Level. He expressed that he supports the shifting to Alert Level 1.
Mayor Zamora also expressed that it is the first time of the Metro Manila mayors to meet in person again after two (2) years. All their previous discussions in the last two (2) years were done through Zoom meetings which they had four times a week.
Metro Manila was under Alert Level 3 in January due to the spike in the COVID-19 cases. It was eased to Alert Level 2 a month after. According to the Department of Health (DOH), the Philippines has surpassed the challenge set by the Omicron variant.
