Eric Xu, the chairman of Huawei, told CNBC that the company sought a big hit as a result of the US ban, adding that the company was hoping that the Google services could be available through its AppGallery the same way on how Google apps were available through the App Store of Apple.

As of this writing, Google didn’t release its immediate comment when contacted by CNBC.

Meanwhile, Bryan Ma, the vice president of devices research at IDC, told CNBC that Huawei would achieve a “significant milestone” if the company had successfully added Google apps on its AppGallery.
