COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez revealed that he will submit his courtesy resignation.
COMMISSION ON ELECTIONS — On Thursday, COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez revealed that he will submit his courtesy resignation to their Acting Chairman Socorro Inting.
Jimenez said in a virtual press briefing that he will submit his courtesy resignation in order to give Inting the opportunity to make the designation herself.
According to Jimenez, he offered his resignation as a designated spokesperson every time there’s a change in chairmanship whether it’s actual chairmanship or acting chairman.

When asked if he will decline being re-appointed as a designated spokesperson, Jimenez said that he won’t decline.
“It is a matter of courtesy and it is what I’ve done since 2007, well 2007 was when I was appointed, was when I was designated spokesperson and had several changes in leadership since then and at every point, I’ve always tendered my resignation as spokesperson,” Jimenez said. “I guess that’s something that you should do. It has nothing to do with the events here.”
Socorro Inting assumed as acting chairman Thursday, a day after COMELEC Chairman Sheriff Abas retired.
COMELEC Chairman Sheriff Abas and COMELEC Commissioners Antonio Kho and Rowena Guanzon retired on February 2. This left the COMELEC en banc with only 4 members: COMELEC Commissioners Socorro Inting, Rey Bulay, Marlon Casquejo, and Aimee Ferolino.
Although left with only 4 commissioners with months to go before the May 2022 national and local elections, Jimenez assured the public that the poll body wasn’t crippled.
Meanwhile, Jimenez said in a virtual press briefing that the poll body will be having an en banc meeting on February 9.
According to the COMELEC spokesperson, this will essentially serve as an organizing meeting for the new commission en banc and the new list of committees.
