Sen. Manny Pacquiao Speaks on Comelec’s Internal Issue over Marcos Cases
MANNY PACQUIAO – The presidential candidate spoke on the issue of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over the Marcos cases.
Currently, there are internal issues in Comelec over the decision on the consolidated cases seeking to disqualify former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. from the presidential race in May. There are three (3) cases raffled to Comelec’s 1st Division.
The said Division is a three-member body. Previously, one of the commissioners handling the cases, Rowena Guanzon, spoke and revealed her decision. She voted to disqualify Marcos Jr. after finding moral turpitude on his tax evasion conviction.
In a separate opinion, Guanzon cited that Marcos Jr. failed to file his income tax returns (ITR) several times as she disclosed her vote to disqualify him from the upcoming presidential race.
Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, the ponente of the cases, has an opposite claim with Guanzon who previously said that they agreed to release the decision by January 17. According to Ferolino, there was no deadline set.
Amid the internal issues in the Comelec over the cases seeking to disqualify former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr., Sen. Manny Pacquiao who is also gunning for the presidency in May 2022 has a reminder to the poll body.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Manny Pacquiao reminded the Comelec that the interest of the public should be their priority. He stressed that the officials of the poll body are in their positions to serve the people and not a specific family or candidate.
“Alalahanin natin na kinabukasan nating lahat na Pilipino ang nakataya dito. Hindi ito kinabukasan ng isang kandidato o ng isang pamilya lamang,” the PROMDI standard-bearer said.
As of this writing, the Comelec has yet to release the consolidated decision on the petitions against Marcos Jr. The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard-bear also maintained his silence amid the issues.
