Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Speaks on Strong Typhoons in PH
LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President shared her realization from the series of strong typhoons that hit the Philippines.
PH was recently hit by a strong tropical storm, Typhoon Odette, that left many parts of the country devastated. It is one of the strongest typhoons in Philippine history.
Prior to Odette entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), there were massive preparations following the forecasts over the strength of the typhoon. Preemptive evacuations also took place in flood-prone areas.
However, Typhoon Odette has its strength that caused the loss of lives and damage to properties. Many people lost their homes to the typhoon.
Some houses were severely damaged by the strong winds brought by Typhoon Odette. Other houses were destroyed after they were hit by falling trees due to the strong wind.
In many areas including those that were submerged in floodwater amid the onslaught of Odette, communication and electrical lines went down. Some areas are still experiencing the shutdown of communication and electrical lines until now and it may take several days or weeks to restore in some places.
In a Facebook post, Vice Pres. Leni Robredo shared her realization following the series of strong typhoons in the Philippines. According to the Vice President, she realized that the “next priority infrastructure development agenda should be putting electric and communication lines underground” most especially in areas prone to flood.

Vice Pres. Robredo recently visited several areas in the Philippines hit by Odette. She and her team also brought relief assistance to the typhoon victims.
