Guidelines on Cinemas Reopening in Metro Manila
CINEMAS REOPENING – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) spoke on the guidelines to be observed in the reopening of theaters.
Previously, the pandemic task force decided to implement granular or localized lockdowns in Metro Manila instead of widespread lockdowns. It crafted guidelines and Alert Level Systems.
The Department of Health (DOH) also expressed that a widespread lockdown may not be very effective anymore in fighting the spread of COVID-19. The Health Department stressed that the people need to go out and work.
Meanwhile, according to DOH, the COVID-19 cases has decreased and the pandemic task force decided to ease the community quarantine measure in the capital region.
Starting October 16, Metro Manila will be under the Alert Level 3 until October 31, 2021. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, cinemas reopening will take place up to 30% of the capacity for fully-vaccinated individuals.

Based on the report, Malaya stressed that the cinema operators really appealed for cinema reopening to be allowed under the Alert Level 3 as supposedly it is still prohibited. Since the approved capacity is only 30% of the cinema, “there will be seats in between moviegoers that will be left vacant”.
According to Cinema Exhibitor Association of the Philippines (CEAP) President Charmaine Bauzon, part of the protocols they have crafted is the wearing of face mask while watching movie. Eating is also not allowed and cinema staff are also tasked to observe the proper health protocols like the washing of hands.
