President Duterte can’t order an arrest of senators, according to Senator Lacson.
On Thursday, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said that President Rodrigo Duterte can’t order an arrest and jail senators or any person.
Senator Lacson emphasized that only a judicial court can order an arrest of any person.
In a message shared to reporters, the senator said that President Duterte wouldn’t and couldn’t order an arrest and jail senators or any person.
“Alam naman natin na hindi gagawin at hindi pwedeng gawin ng Pangulo na ipa-aresto at ipakulong ang kahit sinong tao, senador man o hindi,” Senator Lacson said.
According to the senator, only a court of law can issue a warrant of arrest against any person and in accordance with the rule of law, or under Rule 113 Section 5 of the Rules of Court or what was known as “citizen’s arrest” under clearly-defined circumstances.
